How this tool works
QR codes exploded post-COVID — restaurants with digital menus, events with check-in, marketing with trackable CTAs. But making a QR isn't just encoding text: you need specific formats for WiFi (so phones auto-connect), vCards (so they save as contacts) or emails (so they open the mail client).
This generator supports the 5 most-used formats: URL/plain text, WiFi (with SSID + password + encryption type), vCard (name, email, phone, org), email (with prefilled subject + body) and phone (which opens the call app). Generates downloadable high-res PNG.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does a QR work?
- Forever. The QR is a static encoding of text — it doesn't expire. But if the QR points to a URL, that URL can go down (so for campaigns use your own short link, e.g. yourdomain.com/menu).
- Does WiFi QR work on iPhone and Android?
- iOS 11+: yes, automatic from camera. Android 10+: yes. Older versions: need a QR reader app (most have one preinstalled).
- How much text fits?
- Technically up to 4296 alphanumeric characters. But more text = denser QR — and very dense QRs don't scan well with poor cameras. For long URLs use a short link.
- Can I track scans?
- The QR itself doesn't track. What you track is the URL it points to — use UTM tags. Better: redirect from your own domain (yourdomain.com/qr-event → final URL with tracking).
