How this tool works
KDP has 2 tiers: 35% (any price) and 70% ($2.99-$9.99 price + KDP Select exclusivity). 70% sounds better but locks you into Amazon-exclusive and caps the price. For long books in secondary markets, 35% without restrictions may net more.
Frequently asked questions
- Is KDP Select worth it?
- 70% royalty + Kindle Unlimited reads. In exchange: 90-day Amazon exclusivity. If your book sells 80%+ on Kindle US, yes. If you have traction on Apple Books or Google Play, no.
- Paperback print cost?
- Amazon: $0.85 + $0.012/page B&W. A 250-page book = $3.85 cost. Sold at $9.99 with 70% royalty: $6.99 - $3.85 = $3.14 gross profit.
- Are Amazon Ads worth it?
- Target ACOS: <30% to keep profitability. Above 50% you're losing money. With KDP alone, ad ROI is tough — works better if you have 5+ books and budget to invest.
- Which niche works best?
- Non-fiction self-help, mystery/thriller, romance, educational finance. Literary fiction + poetry: very hard to monetize. Check KDP Best Sellers categories to validate before writing.
